About MRCS Part A
MRCS Part A is the first step towards obtaining the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons (MRCS) — a globally recognised qualification for surgeons.
The examination tests core surgical knowledge across two papers:
- Paper 1: Applied Basic Sciences
- Paper 2: Principles of Surgery in General
It is a high-standard exam jointly administered by the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of UK. Passing MRCS Part A is a prerequisite for progressing to MRCS Part B (OSCE) and, ultimately, achieving full MRCS PG Certification.
