Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the MRCS exam, candidates must possess a primary medical qualification recognized by the UK General Medical Council. MRCS Exam structure

The MRCS examination is of two distinct segments – MRCS Part A and MRCS Part B.

MRCS Part A

MRCS Part A involves a written assessment comprising two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 evaluates candidates on their understanding of “Applied Basic Science,” while Paper 2 is on “Principles of Surgery in General.” The overall examination duration spans approximately 5 hours.

MRCS Part B

MRCS Part B is an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). This exam assess candidates’ clinical proficiencies and competencies. The exam assess the aspirant’s practical skills and knowledge.

Practical Skills: History-taking, communication and clinical procedures.
Applied Knowledge: Anatomy, surgical pathology, critical care and surgical applications.

The Part B examination encompasses 18 stations, each lasting 9 minutes. Moreover, 1 minute is given to review instructions before proceeding to each station.
